No, Paramount Pictures’ Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a reboot. It has no connections to the original trilogy released between 2000 and 2012. The original trilogy consisted of a theatrical film, a made-for-TV second installment, and a direct-to-video third installment.

But since the new Dungeons & Dragons movie is a reboot, there is no need to watch the prior films before you can go see the new D&D movie.

The reboot fantasy-comedy film is set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting and revolves around a band of adventurers on a mission to recover an ancient powerful artifact (and some loot along the way).

The cast of the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie includes Chris Pine, starring as the Bard and team leader Edgin Darvis, Michelle Rodriguez as the Barbarian Holga, Regé-Jean Page as the Paladin Xenk, Justice Smith as Sorcerer Simon, Sophia Lillis as the Druid Doric, and Hugh Grant as Rogue Forge Fitzwilliam.

The cast also includes Chloe Coleman as Kira Darvis, Edgin’s daughter, and Daisy Head as the Red Wizard Sofina. Bradley Cooper also appears in a cameo (which is said to be one of the funniest cameos in his entire career) as Holga's former lover.
