General Hospital is one of the longest-running soap operas that continues to release episodes today. Since its inception, the soap has bid farewell to many of its cast members. Is Dex leaving General Hospital soon? Let's find out in this guide.
Who is Dex in General Hospital?
Unlike the other cast members in General Hospital, the character of Dex has only been on the show since May 5, 2022. He is being portrayed by Evan Hofer.
The General Hospital fictional character debuted as the manager of Volonino's Gym. He stepped in while Christopher Van Etten's character, Chet Driscoll, was in the Middle East. But when Chet returned, Sonny (played by Maurice Benard) gave him a job.
When Dex first joined the soap, his background was not known to everyone. In fact, he was rumored to be the long-lost son of various characters in the show.
Slowly, however, we get tidbits about Dex's past when he joined the army after high school. But after fighting with a boss who was maltreating his family, Dex decided to leave.
We also know that Dex stopped talking to his family and that he had a few brothers. But there's no way to prove this was the truth.
Dex got a job at a private security company when he left the army. This is where he meets Michael Corinthos, who asks him to get proof against Sonny. He also meets Sonny's stepdaughter, Josslyn Jacks (played by Courtney Fulk), whom he gets linked to romantically.
Is Dex Leaving General Hospital in 2024?
When Evan Hofer was auditioning for General Hospital, he was informed that the role of Dex would only be part of the team for one to three months. But in September 2022, four months after his character debuted, Hofer's stint was bumped up to permanent status.
So when the opening credits photo of General Hospital did not include Dex, Portia, and Trina, many wondered whether these characters would be leaving the soap soon.
The simplest explanation here, however, is that General Hospital has such a massive cast that everyone cannot be included in the opening credits.
Instead of including everyone, the producers stick to the characters who will be prominent in that episode.
Another reason why viewers are asking whether Dex is leaving General Hospital is because of the rumors brought about by the original duration of his character on the soap.
But as of now, the soap opera, its producers, and Hofer have not made any confirmation whether he will be leaving GH soon.
