For a soap to be running so long, it's pretty common for goodbyes to be said among co-stars. But it's always sad when a fan-favorite character leaves. So when Nicholas Chavez announced his temporary exit, fans wondered: is Spencer coming back to GH?

Is Nicholas Chavez Leaving General Hospital? Is Spencer Dead on GH?
Spencer Cassadine (played by Nicholas Chavez) is a fan-favorite character on General Hospital.
On the January 31st episode of the soap, a dramatic confrontation between Esme Prince (played by Avery Kristen Pohl) took place.
Esme's original plan was to kidnap Trina Robinson (played by Tabyana Ali) and keep her in a secret room on the yacht.
She planned for Trina to eventually escape and call Laura to bargain and get Ace back. Esme also planned to drug Spencer using a serum.
Unfortunately for her, Trina was able to escape the room faster. As a result, she was able to stop Esme from drugging Spencer.
During this confrontation, Spencer pushed Esme overboard and the two fell into the water. They are both presumed dead.
Thankfully though, Spencer won't stay dead for long.
When Will Nicholas Chavez Return to General Hospital?
So is Spencer coming back to GH? The good news is, that Nicholas Chavez already confirmed that he will be taking a temporary leave from the show.
Back in June 2023, TVLine reported Chavez's decision to go on leave from the soap opera. And this was because Chavez will be busy filming his new role on Ryan Murphy's anthology series, Monster.
This time around, Chavez will be playing one of the Menendez brothers, convicted murderers who killed their own parents. Chavez will be playing Lyle Menendez in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which will be available to watch on Netflix soon.
Although Chavez has confirmed that he will be returning to the soap opera when he's done filming Monster, there's no word on when that will happen.
It's also possible that he'll decide not to return to the soap and pursue a different path for his career. After all, Monster just might be his big break in Hollywood.
Still, it would be sad for avid fans of his character as Spencer in General Hospital. If anything, fans can remain positive with the idea that Chavez will keep his promise and return to his soap opera roots when he's done filming the Netflix docuseries.
