It was kind of established that the DC TV shows are not connected to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films. Many times it has been said that the Arrowverse is not connected to the DCEU. And Titans was even regarded as a standalone DC series.

However, things started changing after the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths. It can be recalled that a crossover occurred between TV Flash (Grant Gustin) and Movie Flash (Ezra Miller). Furthermore, Crisis also confirmed that Titans is part of the Arrowverse multiverse, with Titans being set on Earth-9.

The latest episode of Titans Season 4 gave fans a lot of DC cameos and references, with Gar Logan/Beast Boy traveling through the DC multiverse.

In Titans Season 4 Episode 9, Dominic Mndawe/Freedom Beast tells Gar that he is the True Protector of The Red and that protecting The Red is his destiny. He then goes on to tell Gar that he is meant to fight alone and be alone because the avatar of The Red is above family and friends.

Dominic emphasizes that Gar’s role in the world is too great and important to the point where he has to give everything up for The Red. However, Gar refuses to believe that he’s alone because The Red is supposed to connect him to every single living creature on Earth.

He agrees to be The Red’s protector, but he chooses not to abandon the people he loves the most, like the Titans. Gar then decides to go to the Titans as they have some saving-the-world things to do.

This angers Dominic and the latter tells Gar that he is not yet ready to traverse The Red. However, Gar responds that for the first time in his life, he knows he’s ready.

Gar then goes to The Red, and many doors to different worlds were opened. With Titans being established as part of the Arrowverse, it wasn’t really a surprise for Arrowverse characters like The Flash and Stargirl to appear. It’s even understandable that Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol’s Vic Stone/Cyborg made an appearance as well.

However, what’s quite surprising or questionable is the appearance of DCEU Shazam.

While Gar was looking at the different worlds, one portal shows a city at night and a figure with a lightning bolt on his chest. This figure was flying toward the portal, but the portal closes before he could emerge into The Red.

The figure is quickly identifiable as Zachary Levi’s DCEU Shazam, who's fresh from his role in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The footage, however, comes from the first Shazam! film.

The recent episode of Titans may not just have connected Titans to the DCEU; it may have connected all the worlds in the entire DC universe as the multiverse scene also contains references and cameos of Teen Titans Go! Beast Boy, Grant Morrison, Cesar Romero’s Joker, Smallville, Harley Quinn: The Animated Series, and Superman: The Movie.

While it was satisfying to see a lot of DC Universe content on the latest episode of Titans, whether or not the show is connected to the DCEU would not really matter anymore.

Titans is a canceled series, with Season 4 as its last. The DCEU also has been going through so many changes following James Gunn taking over. Shazam’s fate in the DCU is not certain as well.

But one thing is for sure indeed: the latest Titans episode was a good watch for fans of DC.
