Is Daredevil Blind Explained

Daredevil was presented to the public in 1964 and created by Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett. After a large influx of mail from Marvel fans telling Stan that they liked the fact many of his superhero characters were flawed. He decided he wanted to create another character that had a flaw. So it dawned on him to create a superhero that blind.

At first, he was unsure due to the fact he was worried about offending blind people and thinking that they might believe he was making a parody of them. However, it wasn’t before long that Stan and the rest of Marvel were receiving fan letters from different charitable organizations who appreciated the fact that superheroes were being created that celebrated and built empathy with blind people.

Daredevil Superpowers

Despite technically and medically being blind and not being able to “see” in the conventional sense, Daredevil’s heightened sense of sound allows him to consciously move through his surroundings in the same way a bat uses sonar. In The Daredevil Movie 2003, Matt Murdock describes it as a radar sense. This improves when it’s raining as the droplets make noises on all the surfaces, giving him more “sound to be able to see with”.

His superhearing also allows him to listen to heartbeats and detect when people are lying. This helps him both as Daredevil and as Matt Murdock, attorney at law. Often in courtrooms, battles, or meetings with clients, he’ll listen to their heartbeats to see if it speeds up (which is usually an indicator of someone lying).

Daredevil’s heightened sense of smell also allows him to track people through the city, in one battle with his enemy The Owl, he is able to follow him all through New York simply because he recognizes the distinct oil that The Owl uses on his hair.

His sense of touch also gives him increased balance, strength, and agility.

Despite it not necessarily being a superpower, Daredevil is also an extremely skilled martial artist. He was trained by Stick, a proficient martial artist and assassin who is also blind and a member of the underground group “The Hand”.

Is Daredevil Marvel or DC?

Daredevil has always been a character within The Marvel Universe ever since his inception. However, with the success of other characters within the Marvel franchise, many fans still wonder why they don’t see Daredevil fighting along with other well-known characters such as The Avengers or Spider-Man.

Until 2013, The filming rights to Daredevil belonged to Fox. Afterward, the rights then went back to Marvel who decided to delegate the character to Marvel in which the Netflix TV series Daredevil was made.

Fans hope that Daredevil could be integrated back into the MCU since Disney's acquisition of Marvel. However, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has been quiet over the matter.
