To answer the question, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is based on a manga. It has the same title and is written by Ukto Kodachi. Naruto creator, Masashi Kishimoto supervises the manga as well. The manga started releasing on May 9, 2016 and is still ongoing. As of this writing, there are 14 volumes of the manga already.

Viz Media releases an English version of the manga so international manga fans can read it. The site offers a 7-day free trial to read the manga.
