A lot of Marvel fans were stunned to learn about Robert Downey Jr.'s involvement in Netflix's upcoming series Sweet Tooth, a series which is based on the DC Comics story created by Jeff Lemire. Of course, considering the fact that people are still under the impression that Marvel and DC have beef, RDJ transferring to the "rival" company was a shocking move that caught everyone by surprise.

But what people don't know is that the Iron Man actor and Marvel Cinematic Universe patriarch has been attached to the Netflix-exclusive project since the beginning, all while he was still fulfilling his MCU gig. Downey serves as executive producer for the series along with his wife Susan under the Team Downey umbrella. Lemire is also one of the producers for the show.

Ahead of the series' highly anticipated arrival next month, the streaming giant released a featurette taking fans to the makings of Sweet Tooth and it's safe to say that the Avengers star is happy to be doing his first-ever DC project. RDJ also explained what drove him and his wife to take on the series and the differences from the source material. Check it out here:

Given the fact that Downey is no longer contractually obligated to the Marvel franchise, the man has every right in the world to choose the projects he would like to be involved in. It's also nice to see him in a role most fans haven't seen him before and it's pretty evident that the former Tony Stark actor wants to explore other opportunities in Hollywood that don't just concern acting so good on him. Sweet Tooth looks promising as well so I'm confident that we'll see more of RDJ in a producer-type role in the future.

Sweet Tooth hits Netflix on June 4, 2021.
