Robert Downey Jr. ended his successful tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019 after Avengers: Endgame leaving behind a legacy that is hard to match. While a lot of fans are still hopeful that they'll get to see the Iron Man actor back in the franchise someday, it looks like Robert has long accepted that his days as part of the MCU are over and now, he is ready to move on to greener pastures.

He may have retired from the MCU, but Downey is still quite the busy man these days. In fact, RDJ is part of an upcoming Netflix series titled Sweet Tooth which hits the streaming giant this June. The series follows the tale of human/animal hybrids living in a post-apocalyptic world. A lot of you may not be aware of it but the project is actually based on a DC Comics title written and drawn by Jeff Lemire.

Following the premiere of the series' first official trailer, a lot of fans were shocked to learn that Downey is actually one of the producers. Of course, being considered as a Marvel guy, the idea of RDJ jumping ship to the DC franchise all of a sudden was something not a lot of people were expecting. Check out some of the reactions here:

I'm sure RDJ will always hold Marvel near and dear to his heart but that's not to say that he can't accept projects over at DC especially now that he is longer tied to a contract with Disney. Sure, the idea of him returning to the MCU sounds great but I love the fact that he's exploring new things in his career. Downey taking on a DC project also pretty much proves that there's no bad blood between the two comic book giants.

Sweet Tooth hits Netflix on June 4, 2021.
