As the anime continues to air, the live-action Insomniacs After School movie just released new screenshots that give fans a new look at the main characters, Ganta and Isaki. These new screenshots were shared on the movie’s official website.
The upcoming Insomniacs After School movie is the second adaptation of the slice-of-life romance manga by Makoto Ojiro.
This is quite surprising given that live-action adaptations are typically made months or even years after an anime. For reference, the Insomniacs After School anime is still currently airing.
Insomniacs After School Is Also Getting a Live-Action Movie
Makoto Ojiro’s seinen manga began back in May 2019. Since then, the series has gained a dedicated fanbase, with many loving the series for its chill vibe and compelling characters.
Aside from praise from fans, the series also received the Mando Kobayashi Manga Grand Prix award in 2023.
Thanks to its popularity, Insomniacs After School got an anime adaptation by Liden Films (the studio behind Tokyo Revengers) that airs as part of the Spring 2023 season.
To further capitalize on the series’ popularity, a live-action movie was also announced in January 2022, with a premiere date set for mid-2023.
The film stars Daiken Okudaira (Ryuta Kakei in Village) as Ganta Nakami. Meanwhile, Isaki Magari is played by actress Nana Mori.
Mori is best known for being the voice actress of Hina Amano in Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You.
She is also a singer with several singles under her belt, as well as an actress with credits on shows like Hirokazu Kore-eda's The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House.

Live-Action Insomniacs After School Shares New Photos
The new photos were shared to further hype up the upcoming film. Many of the photos feature the two leads.
One of these photos is a familiar sight for fans of the anime as it is the moment when Ganta and Isaki meet each other in their school’s astronomical observatory.
Along with photos of the two main stars, some screenshots show the other characters in the film, including the other students in their school.
Interestingly, there aren’t any screenshots yet of Ganta and Isaki at night while taking photos of the stars. This is a bit of a surprise given that astrophotography is a big part of the anime.
The Insomniacs After School live-action movie will be released in Japanese cinemas on June 23, 2023.
For now, there’s no word yet on international release plans.
