Nine years after the release of the first movie, finally, Inside Out 2 is happening soon as Riley enters into a more complex phase in her life.

Inside Out 2 Release Date: When Will the Sequel Come Out?

Feel once more as Inside Out 2 brings back everyone's beloved set of emotions on the big screens with Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust!

The Pixar sequel is finally happening nine years after the release of the first movie!

The sequel is currently slated for a June 14, 2024 release in theaters, and that brings Inside Out 2 happening almost nine years after the first Inside Out!

Inside Out 2 Cast: Who are the Actors Returning For The Sequel?

Amy Poehler will be reprising her role as Joy in Inside Out 2 where she personally announced that the sequel will be happening during the D23 Expo in September 2022, finally putting an end to the years of speculation!

Unfortunately, Disgust will not be voiced by Mindy Kaling and Fear will not be voiced by Bill Hader in Inside Out 2.

As revealed by Puck, the two actors are not returning due to contractual issues on the offer where Poehler gets $5 million ('plus additional fees and bonuses'), while the rest of the cast only gets $100,000 each.

Instead of Kaling and Hader, Disgust will be voiced by Liza Lapira with Tony Hale (Arrested Development) for Fear.

However, Phyllis Smith (Sadness) and Lewis Black (Anger) will be reprising their roles as a part of the voices inside Riley's head. Count in Diane Lane who will be returning to voice Riley's mom.

There's a New Voice in Town! (Literally)

As per the first teaser trailer for Inside Out 2, the five main emotions Riley had to endure getting a fresh new rebuild of their own office and realizing their control panels have changed to the color Orange, too.

Meet the newest member, Anxiety! Voiced by Stranger Things and Do Revenge star Maya Hawke, this is already turning out to be an even better ensemble for how teenage Riley is going to cope in high school.

According to director Kelsey Mann, the new character promises to stir things up within headquarters. “Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, might be new to the crew, but she’s not really the type to take a back seat,” said Mann. “That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds.”

Inside Out 2 Crew: Who are the Creative Minds Behind the Scenes?

Inside Out 2 will be having a new director who will helm the sequel. The first-time director Kelsey Mann will be taking over the director's seat from Pete Docter who directed the first movie.

Docter will return for Inside Out 2 but now as an executive producer alongside Toy Story 4's Mark Nielsen. Additionally, Planes' Matt Walker is the music producer for the Inside Out sequel.

Mann previously worked on various Pixar films like The Good Dinosaur, Lightyear, Monsters University, and Onward.

As for the script of Inside Out 2, one of the main writers of the first movie has been tapped to pen the script. Meg LeFauve is the screenwriter for Inside Out 2.

Inside Out 2 Plot: What Will be the Plot of the Sequel?

Considering that the first Inside Out movie focused on Riley getting through moving to a new school, a new neighborhood, and meeting new friends, Inside Out 2 will definitely tackle a teenage Riley this time.

Not only that, Pixar CCO Pete Docter who previously directed the first movie revealed that Inside Out 2 will now involve 27 emotions which is quite a huge expansion from the first five! This hints at more complex emotions coming through in the sequel!

As teased by Amy Poehler, speaking with People in September 2022, Poehler revealed, "In some ways, Inside Out set itself up for a sequel and we're going there."

Poehler added, "At the very end of the original, Joy has that great moment where she's like, 'Finally, everything the way it's supposed to be.' Then we see that big puberty button, 'Should we press this?' We do press it in the second movie."

Poehler further explained, "We're going to have what it feels like to be a teenager, the new emotions that live inside a young person's brain. In many ways, it was really exciting. We knew exactly where we were. We go to the teen brain and we see the madness that lives inside there."

Meanwhile, here is the official synopsis for Inside Out 2:

"The little voices inside Riley's head know her inside and out—but next summer, everything changes when Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2 introduces a new Emotion: Anxiety."

"Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, who've long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren't sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she's not alone."

Where to Watch Inside Out 2?

Inside Out 2 is set for a theatrical release on June 14, 2024, and being a Pixar movie, it is also expected to be released on Disney Plus soon after the movie comes out in cinemas, possibly around September 2024, more or less.
