From one of the most famous Pixar movies, Toy Story, everyone loves the friendship that Buzz and Woody has and from here, a spinoff film comes into the scene with Lightyear. It is one of the much-awaited releases this year as the beloved character with the words “to infinity and beyond” gets the spotlight. What will it be about?
What is the Plot of Disney Pixar’s Lightyear?
Buzz Lightyear has been a beloved character ever since his debut in Toy Story and he has been a staple character in Disney and Pixar when it was announced that he would be having his very own solo spinoff film, fans of the Space Ranger went extremely excited for the upcoming movie. In addition to the excitement, Chris Evans would be voicing the character and how awesome would it be for him to say “to infinity and beyond.”
The official synopsis of Pixar’s Lightyear as per Disney is as follows: “A sci-fi action-adventure and the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear (voice of Chris Evans), the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger on an intergalactic adventure alongside a group of ambitious recruits (voices of Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, and Taika Waititi), and his robot companion Sox (voice of Peter Sohn).”

As per the synopsis, Lightyear will be about the origins of Buzz Lightyear, the person, not the toy. Chris Evans even clarified it with a tweet. An intergalactic adventure awaits the person behind the famous character, the reason why there is a toy inspired by him. Comments from his tweet show how excited the fans of Buzz are with his upcoming movie.
However, the question of whether it would be released on Disney Plus exclusively remains. If so, it would only come out on the streaming platform and not on theaters. Recently, Pixar films have suffered the blow of the pandemic with the new strategy of Disney to exclusively release Pixar films on the streaming platform only. Films such as Soul, Luca, and Turning Red didn’t reach the cinemas.
Lightyear will be released on June 17, 2022. It is yet unknown whether the film would be out on theaters or on Disney Plus exclusively.
