Last week, we learned the shocking news that director Justin Lin left Fast X just a week after production started. As a result, Universal Pictures has been looking for a replacement who can immediately come on board and drive their way to the end as they still intend to keep the May 2023 release date. Now, it looks like they have found a new director to join the family.

According to Deadline, Louis Leterrier, who helmed films such as The Incredible Hulk, Transporter 2, Clash of the Titans, and Now You See Me, is currently the studio's top favorite to replace Lin as the new director of Fast X. However, a deal has not been closed yet since they still have to work out the scheduling due to Leterrier's other projects.

Insiders told Deadline that Universal Pictures studio head Donna Langley had a great relationship over the years with Leterrier and he was quickly put at the top of the list of directors they are approaching to take over the film. As a result of Lin's departure, production was put on hold losing millions of dollars per day for the studio as they are trying to keep the cast and crew intact while dealing with finding a replacement.

Leterrier is a very interesting choice to take over the film last minute although he has the experience of directing action films (and a huge franchise movie with The Incredible Hulk) in the past so he could easily join the production and steer the ship until the end as well as possibly deal with Vin Diesel, whose behavior on the set is reportedly the reason why Lin decided to leave the film.

There are a lot of stakes right now for Fast X given that it is the tenth film in the franchise and Lin's departure already created a huge controversy for the production. Hopefully, Leterrier will be able to steer the ship and avoid the difficulties that Lin experienced prior to his departure.

The next few months will be very interesting and let's just wait and see if they will be able to keep the family together and race their way to the finish line.
