Idris Elba Goes Full-On Furry in New Cats Trailer

While Paramount Pictures was able to save the Sonic the Hedgehog film after all the fan backlash, it looks like Universal has nothing to do but double down on their upcoming Cats movie. The film has just dropped a new trailer, and it pretty much feels like the first one.

Probably the newest thing about the trailer is the clip of Idris Elba without the coat, with a full-on cat body. While some people may think that it looks weird, I think the CGI is fantastic; look at the way Elba's fur shines in the light like an actual cat.

While a lot of people were expecting elaborate costumes like the Broadway play, I think director Tom Hooper was trying to be ambitious, bringing us these anthropomorphic cat people in a way that only a movie can. While the film definitely has its haters, I think it's cool how the movie was able to make the actors feel like actual cats when they moved on the screen.

Speaking of movement, the choreography also looks to be a major draw for the film. Admittedly, the story of Cats is kind of weird to me, but the music continues to have its level of prestige in pop culture. Add to that some amazing dance choreography, and we could have an interesting musical in our hands.

If anything, I'm just trying to approach the movie in a more optimistic lens. I mean, who wants films to be bad?

Catch Cats when it hits theaters Dec.20.
