Hyeyeon formally joined a new family after her girl group, gugudan, disbanded in 2020.

Jellyfish Entertainment made history when it debuted its first girl group in June 2016. The label named the girl group gugudan – stylized as gu9udan or gx9 – and presented them to the public with their first EP, Act. 1 The Little Mermaid.

Originally, the group was composed of nine members – Mimi, Hana, Haebin, Nayoung, Sejeong, Sally, Soyee, Mina, and Hyeyeon. Unfortunately, the latter member eventually left the group in October 2018, two years before they disbanded.

After being on hiatus for years, Hyeyeon confirmed her comeback and told her fans she is making a fresh start under a new agency.

Beyond J Welcomes Hyeyeon

Beyond J confirmed on Friday that Hyeyeon formally signed a contract with them. It also revealed that she would promote as an actress instead under the stage name Jo Aram.

In the same statement, the agency described the former K-pop idol as a bright and lovable individual, adding that Jo Aram (Hyeyeon) has unlimited hidden potential as an actress.

“As actress Jo Aram, who is full of dreams, attempts to take a leap forward and begin her acting career in earnest, we plan to work and journey together with her so that she can pursue a broad array of activities through a wide variety of platforms and projects. We ask that you please give her lots of love, interest, and support,” the statement went on.

Meanwhile, Jo Aram herself sent a heartfelt message to fans to reveal her plans in fully transforming herself into an actress. Although her first attempt in the industry failed, she is said to be feeling happy and excited to show a diligent and hardworking actress soon.

Beyond J has been known for its award-winning series and movies. It is worth noting that it produced The Ghost Detective, The Secret Life of My Secretary, and Nevertheless.

Why Did Hyeyeon (Jo Aram) Leave gugudan?

Before returning to the industry and finding a new label, Hyeyeon already told her fans she would return in the future after focusing on her studies and health.

In October 2020, she surprised her fans after informing them that she would discontinue her group activities after being on hiatus for months. She initially took a break in May of the same year, but she only came back to formally end everything as she realized what she wanted to be in the future.

After more than a year of waiting, Hyeyeon indeed came back. This time, she returned to present her new and better self.
