As if by some strange coincidence, the DCEU and MCU's movies about Captain Marvel are coming out less than a month from each other, and there have been constant comparisons between the two characters and the films. Shazam! director David F. Sandberg is the more active one on Twitter, and he gives his two cents on which movie will actually end up making more money.
He jokes on Twitter:
Well yeah, [Captain Marvel] is going to make like a gazillion dollars. It connects to Infinity War and it has Brie Larson punching old women in the face. I tried to get [Zachary Levi] to punch an old woman in the face but he just kept saying "those days are over" and stared out into nothing.
Admittedly, some fans have been expressing how "unimpressed" they are by the Captain Marvel trailers and have been constantly addressing how bland Brie Larson looks in the movie. Personally, I think it's just part of her character at the beginning of the film, and she'll eventually move on to become more likable as the story progresses.
As for Shazam!, the studio is said to be aiming for a Guardians of the Galaxy feel with this film, so we can expect it to be more lighthearted than the usual DCEU entries we've had over the years. We're expecting a new trailer by the New Year, and I can't wait to see more of Zachary Levi's ‘boy in Superman's body' character.
Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5, 2019.
