Howard the Duck is easily one of the most bizarre characters in the Marvel Universe and after a 1986 film based on the character failed to meet expectations both critically and financially, a lot of people were under the impression that his days of being featured in live-action format were over. Obviously, that all changed when James Gunn decided to bring the character back for a jaw-dropping cameo appearance in the original Guardians of the Galaxy film.

Actor Seth Green who is good friends with Gunn took on the task of voicing the character in GOTG 1 & 2 as well as Marvel Studios' first animated offering What If...?. Now, it would be safe to assume that Howard will once again pop up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but fans are wondering if we'll actually see him in a more substantial role.

Speaking with ComicBook, Green cast some doubt on Howard's potential involvement in the film, saying that he doesn't know if the character will return for the third installment. He said: "I don't know if Howard's a part of it, I haven't heard anything about that."

Interestingly, Green claims that GOTG Vol. 3 will highlight the relationship and sisterhood between Gamora and Nebula, something that comes as a huge surprise that he would know about. He continued: "The only thing I know is that it's the girls' story, it's the sisters' story, that it's Gamora and Nebula's story. So I don't know if it's a prequel, or if it comes off in the new timeline that's splintered post-the Time Heist. Honestly, I don't know anything about it... I wouldn't be hurt if Howard's not a central character to the sisters' story."

Green's statement clearly drops a major clue about Howard the Duck's appearance in the upcoming MCU offering because why would he even know what the film's plot will be centered on if he's not part of it, right? Then again, he's a good friend of James Gunn, and being a writer, producer, and director himself, he was probably approached by Gunn to ask for feedback regarding Volume 3's script.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit cinemas on May 5, 2023.
