It's confirmed - Wolverine will be a part of the third Deadpool movie. But this is not the first time these two un-killable superheroes are appearing together, for they actually share a deep and long history. Read on to learn how Wolverine will fit in the Deadpool 3.
Built from the Weapon X Program
The biggest and most important connection between Deadpool and Wolverine is that they were both the results of separate experiments of the Weapon X Program, a top-secret joint venture by the US and Canadian governments that aimed to create super-soldiers who would function as living weapons.
The two were not created at the same time, though; Wolverine was an earlier experiment that later on inspired the methods applied to develop Deadpool. Deadpool's healing abilities were based on the genetic basis of Wolverine's mutant healing factor.
Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld claims that Deadpool's connection with the Weapon X Program has been part of his origin story since his first appearance in New Mutants #98, released in 1991.
The X- Force
Aside from being created through the same program, Deadpool 3 will not be the first time James Howlett and Wade Wilson will appear together. They were two of the core members of the X-Force, a specialized X-Men unit that dealt with the most dangerous and most brutal missions that were often covertly handled, away from the attention of the other mutants.
The X-Force was originally a paramilitary unit that was separate from the X-Men and was led by Cable, but was later on revised. We met a different (much more comedic) version of the X-Force in Deadpool 2.
Aside from being members of X-Men, both Deadpool and Wolverine also became members of the Avengers, though not at the same time.
In the comic books, Wolverine joined the Avengers first, when the New Avengers was released following the Avengers: Disassembled arc.
Deadpool joined the Uncanny Avengers after the events of the Secret Wars.
We still have no clue how Deadpool and Wolverine will be a part of the MCU. Deadpool 3 may show us the history of the Weapon X Program.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman gave us the basic premise when they released the video announcing Wolverine's appearance in Deadpool 3. We know that Wolverine supposedly died in Logan, which was set in 2029, but Reynolds clarified that Deadpool 3 is set before that.
Deadpool 3 will also be the first R-rated movie in the MCU.
