Is Reze a Real Name?
It's safe to say that the majority of anime viewers hadn't heard of the name Reze much until the infamous Chainsaw Man arc.
This shows us that Reze isn't a common name in Japan or elsewhere. Of course, a quick internet research will demonstrate that Reze can be found on some baby name websites, typically as a girl's name.
Not much is known about the name's origin and meaning outside of the context of the manga.
However, Ancestry.com does mention Reze as a family name with at least 818 existing records.
In Chainsaw Man, Reze's background is ambiguous as she's a Hybrid sent to Japan from the Soviet Union.
Her ethnic origins are not discussed and anime aesthetics make it hard to tell if she was originally Japanese.
Whether or not Reze is her real name isn't known either.
How to Pronounce Reze's Name in Chainsaw Man?
So far, the pronunciation of Reze's name has not been heard in official Chainsaw Man media but we can draw some conclusions based on what we know about Japanese pronunciations.
Reze's name consists of the katakana syllables レ (re) and ゼ (ze). The most likely pronunciation for the Bomb Girl's name would be something like "Rehzeh," with two long es that take about the same time to pronounce.
Compared to English, the Japanese language has a largely consistent way of pronouncing syllables.
Therefore, we would be surprized if Reze's name was pronounced differently.
Of course, if she's originally Russian, a different true pronunciation is possible, but "Rehzeh" is the pronunciation we would expect to hear from Chainsaw Man's Japanese characters.
Reze herself is bilingual, speaking both Russian and Japanese, so this is how we would expect her to pronounce her own name when speaking to Denji.
How NOT to Pronounce Reze
As an English-speaking fan, it may be tempting to pronounce her name as "Reez," since many English names end with an "e" that is silent.
However, this is normally not the case in Japanese, where every vowel is pronounced and there are no silent or otherwise unexpected vowel pronunciations.
