Jujutsu Kaisen has been showing promise as one of the highest rating anime this season. The anime series produced by MAPPA streaming via Crunchyroll is based on the Shōnen manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami.
Jujutsu Kaisen follows the story of how every living being has the Cursed Energy coming from negative emotions that naturally flow through the body. Normal people continually lose Cursed Energy as it is beyond their control and because of this, the birth of the Curses happens.
Those who are blessed with control over their Cursed Energy are the Jujutsu Sorcerers which enables them to use the energy in the way they can and reduce its release. High-ranking Jujutsu Sorcerers can refine their Cursed Energy and utilize it for Cursed Techniques which is tailored fit to the user of their lineage.
Domain Expansion is one example of the Cursed Technique which allows the Jujutsu Sorcerer to use their Cursed Energy to create a pocket dimension surrounding the area that they can cover to make their attacks stronger.
In school, and Occult Research Club studies these Cursed Energy where the young are trained to be Jujutsu Sorcerers to protect the living from the precarious existence of the supernatural. In this club is Yuji Itadori, a student who lives with his dying grandfather, who preferred to join the club instead of the track team despite having innate talents in running.
While on his deathbed, Yuji's grandfather tells him to always help people and die around people. He took this advice into one thought that everyone deserves a proper death.
The Occult Club, unfortunately, unseals a talisman that attracts the Curses to the school bringing in negative emotions strengthened by the magic of the sorcerers around the vicinity. Megumi Fushiguro, a sorceress, confronted Yuji regarding the cursed talisman, the finger of Sukuna, a powerful Curse.
To protect Megumi, Yuji swallows the finger and became the host of Sukuna who is evil in nature. They hatched a plan to eliminate Sukuna – delay Yuji's death until he swallows all the fingers of Sukuna to kill the Curse all at once.
This tale of sacrifice, control, and war with the Curses has brought attention to many fans, therefore, gaining popularity in the duration of the anime season. All these bring in the question of whether there would be a second season for the high rating anime.
To date, there is no official confirmation yet as to the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen from the producers of the anime series. To have a second season, an anime series must have consistent ratings and have high gross profit for the first season to secure a second one.
Basing on the success of the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, it is highly possible to have a second season. Also noting that the anime has a source material from the manga, it can continue its production right away.
That being said, the second season would likely have the same treatment as that of the first with the 24-episode count. And no, it's not a split-cour wherein an anime takes a break in between, it is a continuous airing which means that it will be available every week.
