The Netflix series Griselda had Modern Family star Sofia Vergara depict the story of the infamous drug lord in her most glorious and fearsome years.
However, the six-part show didn't show much of the aftermath of her imprisonment. So, what happened?
How Many Years Did Griselda Blanco Spend in Jail?
Griselda Blanco, hailed as the "Cocaine Godmother" for being one of Medellin Cartel's most overpowered drug lords, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
DEA agent Bob Palumbo caught Griselda in 1985, charging her for manufacturing, importing, and distributing cocaine from Colombia to the United States. This sentenced Griselda to 15 years in prison.
Apart from running an illegal drug smuggling empire, Griselda also happened to have been charged with killing two other drug dealers, and the 1982 death of a 2-year-old boy, Johnny Castro.
The 2-year-old's death was an accident during her ordered attack on his father, Jesus Castro, who allegedly insulted Griselda's sons.
After pleading guilty to 3 counts of first-degree murder charges in 1998, this was reduced after a plea deal to 3 counts of second-degree murder, which granted Griselda an additional 20-year sentence.
However, instead of serving 3 concurrent 20-year sentences, she had only spent 6 years in prison. Here's why and how that happened.

When Did the "Cocaine Godmother" Get Out of Jail?
The growing decline of Griselda's health was part of why she was released earlier than her initial sentence.
She suffered from a heart attack while serving her time, which earned her returning to the real world.
Though Griselda was released in 2004 (six years later), she ended up getting deported to Colombia where she lived for at least another eight years.
That is until she was shot on sight by two killers riding on a motorbike while she was out by the marketplace going about her day. Griselda died at the age of 69.
