How Joss Whedon Envisioned a Wonder Woman Movie

Joss Whedon would forever be linked to two of his popular works: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Avengers cinematic franchise.

However, in between, he had also dabbled with helming a potential Wonder Woman story, though one that was scrapped before it can even take off fully.

In an interview with Empire (via Comicbook.com), Whedon shared his thoughts on what had been his take on Wonder Woman, and why it just didn't work with the studio.

"I worked really hard on that movie and it meant a lot [to me]. But I don't know if what I was trying to do would fit in with what [the studio's] vision is. I had to take on the film that, well, nobody liked… We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that's never gonna work."

Whedon's take on Wonder Woman sees our heroine Diana Prince leaving Themyscira with Steve Trevor, to give aid to refugees. The story will then delve into how her potential hardships in Gateway City, Trevor's hometown on Earth.

The Avengers cinematic franchise itself has enjoyed a relatively high and mighty run for the eight years since both solo and ensemble movies debuted on the big screen. That's why we can still peg Whedon's dabble into the Avengers something of a serendipitous occurrence instead of a second shot at helming superhero movies.

At the same time, we'll still have to see how Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman will do. So far, there have been good reviews, which hopefully will resonate with both critics and fans this time. I'm crossing my fingers that Wonder Woman is the DC movie that will break the curse.

Wonder Woman will be out in theaters on June 2.
