Doctor Siggi Wilzig (played by Saw, Lost's Michael Emerson) made a crucial discovery, but before he could exit the lab's premises, a Turret was targeting his way. What happened here? What exactly is a Turret and what does it do?

Well, as Fallout episode 2 titled The Target showed, a Turret is an automated machine gun that can sense and lock on its hostile targets for execution, according to its programming.

The Turrets are usually utilized by the Enclave or the Brotherhood of Steel, considering their technologically advanced organizations.

In this case, the Turret was programmed to eliminate all threats that could potentially bring harm to their facility.

The so-called machine guns were located near the lab's exit, while the Doctor was catching his breath.

Although the Turret sensed his presence and pointed its shooters right in his face, how come the doctor survived their machine guns?

Keep in mind that the Prime Video series is very much canon to the original story of the Fallout game.

While humans can employ and rely on Turrets to save on ammo, they have not been proven to be more useful than human shooters.

The same thing seems to apply in the series, especially since fans pointed out how the Turrets completely missed their target despite being near the Doctor's position.

But do also keep in mind that the Fallout series is meant to be filled with comedy and violence, as told by the showrunner Graham Wagner (Portlandia, Silicon Valley, The Office): "It's, I guess, winking at the audience through the violence as much as it is the comedy, but the comedy, as is in the game, for me is deadly serious. It's situationally funny."
