Daredevil and Echo have a complicated relationship throughout the Marvel comics. While they started as enemies, they have become lovers and allies. But considering they both have physical disabilities, one question on everyone's minds is how do Daredevil and Echo talk to each other.
Daredevil and Echo Explained
Matt Murdock aka Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox) is a blind legal defense lawyer by day who turns into a masked vigilante at night. He became blind after saving someone from getting hit by a truck carrying radioactive material when he was a child. Despite his disability, he was able to train himself to develop his other senses.
Meanwhile, Maya Lopez aka Echo (played by Alaqua Cox) was born deaf. But because of her lip-reading abilities, she wasn't diagnosed until later. In addition to being deaf, Maya is also an amputee.
Despite these disabilities, Daredevil and Echo are talented superheroes who will stop at nothing for justice to prevail. With their disabilities though, people can't help but ask: how do Daredevil and Echo talk to each other?

How Did Daredevil and Echo Meet?
In the comics, Daredevil and Echo met out-of-costume upon the arrangement of Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. As he guessed, the two struck up a romantic relationship without knowing each other's secret identities.
Fisk manipulated the situation by telling Maya that Daredevil was the one who murdered her birth father, William Lincoln. In reality, it was he who killed Lincoln and took in Maya to nurture her abilities.
In revenge for her father's death, Maya set out to kill Daredevil. While fighting, he revealed his real identity to her. This led Maya to realize that they were manipulated by Kingpin. She came for Kingpin and shot him in the eye.
How do Daredevil and Echo Talk to Each Other?
As it turns out, the communication between Echo and Daredevil has never been an issue in the comics. This is because Echo can study the lip, tongue, and teeth placement of verbal speakers. As a result, she is able to mimic verbal speech. This is how the two characters communicate in the comics.
But in the MCU series, Echo communicates using sign language. So how does Daredevil understand her, considering he is blind?
On Reddit, fans pointed out that Daredevil can sense hand movements, which he can use to sign. They also shared that Matt was able to tell when Foggy was flipping him off so it would explain how he can communicate with Echo.
