House of the Dragon has already introduced us to several interesting characters. However, it is clear that Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen towers over all of them as the new heir to the Iron Throne. Needless to say, it's a huge role and Milly Alcock says playing the dragon-riding princess is "such a gift."
Milly Alcock plays the younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen who was introduced in House of the Dragon Episode 1. She shares the role with Emma D'Arcy, who will play the adult Rhaenyra but Alcock is still expected to portray the princess for a few more episodes. So it's no surprise that the Australian actress feels extremely lucky to be chosen for the part.
Alcock recently spoke to TheWrap where she spoke highly about the role.
“It’s always such a gift when you’re given a character that has such a clear moral compass and such a clear trajectory in what they want and how the world around them doesn’t allow them to get to that. It really gives you so much to play with,” Alcock said. She then pointed out that her character in the Australian series Upright was similar to Rhaenyra in that way.
“So I think that I’ve been very fortunate that similarly, with Meg … Meg had the same kind of challenges that Rhaenyra faces. I’ve been lucky that my kind of, quote unquote, typecast has been very strong, outspoken women, which is just really fun, honestly,” Alcock said.
Rhaenyra Targaryen is certainly a force to reckon with and we can't wait to see more of her in the next episode of House of the Dragon.
House of the Dragon Episode 2 is titled The Rogue Prince and will premiere on HBO on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
