If there's one thing we learned from Game of Thrones, it's that there are several characters who were excellent candidates to rule over the Seven Kingdoms but never sat on the Iron Throne. Not surprisingly, House of the Dragon will introduce yet another possible ruler who ended up being the Queen Who Never Was. Nevertheless, Eve Best insists that her character Rhaenys Velaryon should be the ruler of Westeros.
In George R.R. Martin's book Fire and Blood, the young Rhaenys Targaryen was expected to be the next Queen of Westeros but was repeatedly passed over for male heirs who didn't have blood claim as strong as Rhaenys. Because of this, she became known as the Queen Who Never Was.
She may not be poised to rule over Westeros but Eve Best points out how Rhaenys would be the best queen.
"She's able to navigate this incredibly dense political environment with such finesse, calm, and effortless grace," Best told Entertainment Weekly. "It's impossible to deny that underneath, there is this sword in her heart of that core wound, which is a combination of all kinds of things."
Additionally, Rhaenys is an experienced dragonrider and we might even get to see her on her dragon Meleys, who is known as Red Queen, in House of the Dragon.
"That skill is something that taps into the wild part of her, and it can never be denied," Best said.
Rhaenys might go through a lot in House of the Dragon but she has her husband Lord Corlys Velaryon aka the Sea Snake to always support her. Needless to say, Rhaenys and Corlys are two characters to watch out for in the series.
House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO on August 21, 2022.
