Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon Star Compares Sea Snake to Tywin Lannister

House of the Dragon is set to introduce a completely new set of characters who all lived in Westeros several years before the events in Game of Thrones. However, some of these new characters share traits with the characters we've already met in the original HBO series. For instance, Steve Toussaint says that his character Lord Corlys Velaryon aka the Sea Snake is very similar to House Lannister's most formidable figure Tywin Lannister.

There is little doubt that Tywin Lannister was a major player in the game of thrones in Game of Thrones. Although he ultimately failed to place himself on the Iron Throne, Tywin became a fan-favorite due to his ruthlessness and in part because of Charles Dance's impressive performance in the show.

But will we get to meet another Tywin Lannister in House of the Dragon? Steve Toussaint claims his character Lord Corlys Velaryon has a lot in common with the Lannister patriarch other than the fact that he read Tywin's dialogue when he auditioned for the series.

"Sea Snake is a father and wants what he thinks is the best for his children," Toussaint told Entertainment Weekly. He then points out that the character is still much more at home on the battlefield or at sea.

"It's much simpler then," Toussaint said. "If you don't do it right, you die. That's it. There's no gray area. But of course, he has this huge ambition. This idea of legacy, it's a big deal for him."

Sea Snake is certainly an interesting character considering that he has some scores to settle with the Targaryens. With that in mind, we can't wait to see him in action next month.

House of the Dragon premieres on HBO on August 21, 2022.
