We're almost halfway done with House of the Dragon as the ten-episode first season will release its fifth episode next week. So what can we expect in the ominously-titled We Light the Way? It looks like the Game of Thrones prequel series already preparing for another major time skip and this time, two of the major characters are going to be recast!
The House of the Dragon Episode 5 preview confirmed that a royal wedding is happening as Rhaenyra Targaryen finally agrees to marry Laenor Velaryon. However, there is an ominous note in the teaser as Otto Hightower speaks about the expected death of King Viserys I Targaryen and he urges Alicent Hightower to prepare her son Aegon II to rule Westeros.
The teaser still features Milly Alcock and Emily Carey as Rhaenyra and Alicent but Episode 5 might be the last time we'll see the princess and the queen as teenagers. In the book Fire and Blood, King Viserys dies when his children with Alicent are already grown so if the series follows this, there's a good chance we'll see Rhaenyra and Alicent as adults by the sixth episode.
It might seem like sad news considering that Milly Alcock and Emily Carey have been doing an excellent job at playing Rhaenyra and Alicent, respectively. However, the characters' story is about to get even more interesting and there is little doubt that the new actors will be perfect for the roles.
For now, it is not yet confirmed whether Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke will take over as Rhaenyra and Alicent in House of the Dragon Episode 5. Still, we're already looking forward to these two talented actors when the princess and the queen are finally recast.
House of the Dragon Episode 4 is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 5 is titled We Light the Way and will premiere on HBO on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
