House of the Dragon: George R.R. Martin Says Game of Thrones Prequel Should Get 4 Seasons

There is little doubt that people don't want House of the Dragon to end just yet. But how many seasons will the Game of Thrones prequel get? George R.R. Martin says that the new show doesn't have to last as long as the original series. In fact, the Fire and Blood author claimed that the story about how the Dance of the Dragons came to be should be told in four seasons.

George R.R. Martin has posted a new entry on his blog where he praised Paddy Considine for his performance in House of the Dragon Episode 8. In addition to that, the novelist addressed the multiple time jumps and stated that showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik made the right decision to keep things moving.

"I think Ryan has handled the 'jumps' very well, and I love love love both the younger Alicent and Rhaenyra and the adult versions, and the actresses who play them. (Truth be told, we have an incredible cast, and I love all of them)," Martin wrote.

"Do I wish we’d had more time to explore the relationship between Rhaenyra and Ser Harwin, the marriage of Daemon and Laena and their time in Pentos, the birth of various and sundry children (and YES, Alicent gave Viserys four children, three sons and a daughter, their youngest son Daeron is down in Oldtown, we just did not have the time to work him in this season), and everything else we had to skip? Sure," he continued.

Martin then pointed out that if each season had 13 episodes, it would be possible to show what House of the Dragon had to "time jump over" but they would risk being "too slow" wasting time on episodes where "nothing happened."

"As it is, I am thrilled that we still have 10 hours every season to tell our tale," he wrote. "I hope that will continue to be true. It is going to take four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do justice to the Dance of the Dragons, from start to finish."

It certainly makes sense and we're hoping House of the Dragon gets three more seasons after the present one.

The latest episode of House of the Dragon is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 9 is titled The Green Council and is set to premiere on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
