House of the Dragon Star Compares Ser Harwin Strong to Pedro Pascal's Oberyn Martell

House of the Dragon Episode 6 was yet another shocking episode of the HBO series as it gave us three major deaths. However, it looks like Ser Harwin Strong made a lasting impression on fans and no one knows this better than Ryan Corr. The actor says that character is similar to Oberyn Martell, who died a little too soon in Game of Thrones.

In House of the Dragon Episode 6, Ser Harwin Strong attacked Ser Criston Cole after the latter made a comment suggesting that Harwin was the father of Rhaenyra Targaryen's children. The possible scandal led to Harwin's father Ser Lyonel Strong trying to resign as Hand of the King and Harwin himself being sent to Harrenhal. Unfortunately, both died in a fire caused by assassins sent by Harwin's own brother Larys Strong.

Ser Harwin Strong's time on House of the Dragon may have been a short one but Ryan Corr says that his character's death was somehow similar to Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. According to Corr, co-showrunner Ryan Condal emphasized “how [the Viper] was there for a limited amount of time but his presence lingered, long after his death and throughout.”

Corr was quick to point out that he is aware that there are a lot of differences between Harwin and the Red Viper (via The AV Club). Still, he was convinced that Condal is right in his own way.

“Obviously they’re very different characters, but [Condal and co-creator Miguel Sapochnik] saw their impact as being similar,” Corr said.

Oberyn Martell was played by Pedro Pascal and although the character only appeared in a couple of episodes, the Red Viper became an instant fan favorite for Game of Thrones viewers. Unfortunately, Oberyn got too cocky while fighting Ser Gregor Clegane and the Mountain killed him off too easily.

The latest episode of House of the Dragon is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 7 is titled Driftmark and is set to premiere on HBO on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
