House of the Dragon: George R.R. Martin Reveals What Happened to Daeron Targaryen

If there's one thing that people are complaining about in House of the Dragon, it's the fact that the Game of Thrones prequel has somehow overlooked a few key characters from the book. For instance, fans are wondering if the producers have completely forgotten that Alicent Hightower has four children. However, George R.R. Martin has just confirmed that Daeron Targaryen is still very much a part of the story and revealed what happened to Viserys I Targaryen's third son.

In Fire and Blood, King Viserys I Targaryen had four children with Alicent Hightower. However, only Aegon II, Aemond, and Helaena Targaryen have appeared in House of the Dragon.

So what happened to Daeron Targaryen? George R.R. Martin addressed the prince's absence in a new post on his blog. Interestingly, the A Song of Ice and Fire author confirmed that Daeron has been whisked away from the Red Keep and is expected to appear much later in the show.

"YES, Alicent gave Viserys four children, three sons and a daughter, their youngest son Daeron is down in Oldtown, we just did not have the time to work him in this season," Martin wrote.

This certainly makes sense considering that Daeron doesn't play a significant role until much later when the civil war is in full swing. Without giving too much away, Daeron is set to be one of the major players in the Dance of the Dragons in his own way and we're definitely looking forward to seeing his debut.

For now, it is unclear when Daeron Targaryen will appear in House of the Dragon. There is a good chance we'll finally get to meet him in Season 2.

The latest episode of House of the Dragon is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 9 is titled The Green Council and is set to premiere on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
