House of the Dragon Episode 4: The King of the Narrow Sea Returns to King's Landing for Chaos and Scandal

House of the Dragon Episode 4 has arrived and with it comes the King of the Narrow Sea. Daemon Targaryen makes a dramatic return to King's Landing but what appears to be a heartwarming reunion between two brothers would later lead to chaos and scandal across the Realm.

In House of the Dragon Episode 4, Rhaenyra Targaryen has been sent on a tour to meet suitors who could become her future king consort. However, she doesn't find a man she likes and goes back home just in time to see her uncle Daemon Targaryen returning to King's Landing.

Daemon's return is a huge surprise for everyone considering that he declares himself to be the King of the Narrow Sea but he actually surrenders the Stepstones and his crown to King Viserys I Targaryen who welcomes him back.

The event also gives Rhaenyra a chance to reconnect with Alicent Hightower as they both admit missing each other during the princess' absence. Still, Daemon's return to King's Landing isn't all about high spirits and good news.

When Daemon takes Rhaenyra to the seedy places outside the Red Keep, they end up in a pleasure house and almost have sex but Daemon draws back and leaves her, leading the princess to have sex with Ser Criston Cole instead. It doesn't take long before Otto Hightower informs Viserys about the incident and not surprisingly, the king is disgusted by the news and banishes Daemon back to the Vale.

In the meantime, Alicent confronts Rhaenyra about the allegations, something that the princess vehemently denies. It is then revealed that the queen had a prospective husband for Rhaenyra and warns the princess to be careful of her reputation.

In the end, Viserys gives Rhaenyra an ultimatum: wed Ser Laenor Velaryon and unite their Houses to strengthen both. Rhaenyra agrees on one condition: She wants the Hand removed from King's Landing for spying on her. The King concedes and Otto is removed from the Small Council.

House of the Dragon Episode 4 is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 5 is titled We Light the Way and will premiere on HBO on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
