House of the Dragon Episode 3 Teaser Offers First Glimpse at Young Aegon II Targaryen

The House of the Dragon Episode 3 preview has been officially released and we're getting our first glimpse at the little prince Aegon II Targaryen, who is set to be one of the main players in the Dance of the Dragons!

There is another time jump confirmed in the House of the Dragon Episode 3 preview which appears to be about two years after King Viserys I Targaryen announced that he will marry Alicent Hightower. The teaser reveals that Alicent has given birth to a son called Aegon, hence the third episode's title Second of His Name.

We only get a small glimpse at Aegon II Targaryen but he clearly has his father's silver hair. At this point, the child is just a child but he's also the son of the king and is destined to become a major player in the new game of thrones.

In George R.R. Martin's book Fire and Blood, Aegon II Targaryen is King Viserys' first son to survive past infanthood. As the potential male heir, he was expected to ascend to the Iron Throne but the king would keep his daughter Rhaenyra as his heir. Aegon II eventually works to ascend to the throne and so begins the Dance of the Dragons.

The House of the Dragon Episode 3 preview also teases a lot of tension in Bloodstone. The teaser confirms that the War of the Stepstones is happening and that means Daemon Targaryen is well on his way to being named a king.

House of the Dragon Episode 3 is titled Second of His Name, a direct reference to Aegon II Targaryen. The new episode will premiere on HBO on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
