Hope Summers Mourns Cable's Death in X-Men: The Exterminated

Marvel recently shocked fans when Cable was killed during the X-Men event Extermination. While death in comic books is far from new, Marvel did add an interesting twist by having a young version of Cable kill the one we all knew and loved. As fans wait for his revival, Marvel is going to let some of us grieve with December's X-Men: The Exterminated #1.

Scheduled for release in December, the story has Hope Summers trying to deal with her loss but it leads her to some trouble. Thankfully, Jean Grey and the rest of the X-Men will help her through this.

Fittingly, former Cable creative team Zac Thompson and Lonnie Nadler are teaming up to close this current chapter for the X-Man. They only ever worked on one arc for the character but fans did like what they saw, so it was kind of a shame that the series was soon canceled.

Interestingly enough, Chris Claremont will also be providing a backup story for the character. He doesn't have that much experience with the time-traveling hero but it will be fun seeing his take on the character. Claremont is also going to write the upcoming X-Men Black one-shot starring Magneto.

Here's the synopsis (via Bleeding Cool):

Cable has fallen, and the events of Extermination have left a hole in the X-Men family. What comes next??
In the wake of Cable's death, his adopted daughter Hope Summers is attempting to deal with her loss – but a dark and terrifying path beckons her, and the X-Men's own Jean Grey may be her only hope for survival!
This December, CABLE creative team Zac Thompson and Lonnie Nadler re-team for a special one-shot to saygood-bye to the time-traveling, fan-favorite mutant – featuring covers by Geoff Shaw and a special back-upstory that celebrates the life of Nathan Summers, from legendary X-Men series writer Chris Claremont!

X-Men: The Exterminated #1 comes out this December.
