His Dark Materials Loses Viewers Following the Release of The War of the Worlds

The adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials has consistently been losing viewers for BBC One. Although the show debuted with over 7.2M viewers, its last episode was seen by only 5.4M people last Sunday. This is a significant dip from the previous week's 5.7M viewers.

According to a report from Deadline, however, this may change once online viewers have been taken into account. Further, despite the fluctuations in its number of viewers, the show was most notably the second-biggest drama launch in the UK this year just behind Line of Duty, which was seen by 12.1M people.

During the same Sunday night as this drop to 5.4M viewers, however, BBC One's reboot of The War of the Worlds starring Rafe Spall from The Big Short and Eleanor Tomlinson from Poldark managed to debut with 4.7M at its 9 pm slot.

Just like previously mentioned, these numbers may significantly change once online streaming is taken into account and we all truly hope that is the case. His Dark Materials has always been one of our childhood's beloved tales.

It is based on Philip Pullman's trilogy of fantasy novels and tells the story of children Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry as they navigate through a series of parallel universes. The BBC has revealed that its television counterpart is set to be an eight-part series that will run until the latter half of December during Sundays at 8:00 pm.
