His Dark Materials Star Lin-Manuel Miranda Teases Duet With His Daemon

He might be playing a gifted balloonist in His Dark Materials but that doesn't mean Lin-Manuel Miranda is completely stepping away from his musical roots. The Mary Poppins Returns star has just revealed that his character Lee Scoresby will be singing a duet with his daemon in the highly anticipated HBO fantasy series.

Miranda recently joined his Dark Materials co-stars Dafne Keen and James McAvoy at the show's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 where he shared some interesting details about Lee's entrance in the series (via Indiewire). The Hamilton creator revealed that Lee and his arctic hare daemon Hester will share a duet in their first appearance in the series.

"We're like our own little buddy cop movie in the middle of the show," Miranda said.

Although Hester is only played by a puppet while filming, Miranda admitted that he was instantly smitten with his daemon. The actor says it was like being one of the children who visit the Sesame Street set where the kids interact with Elmo directly instead of the puppeteer.

Hester isn't the only reason why Miranda is so excited to work on His Dark Materials. He confessed that he is a huge fan of the Philip Pullman books which were a huge part of his life.

"When my wife and I started dating, we read these books together," Miranda shared, much to the delight of the audience.

We're certainly looking forward to seeing if Miranda's passion for the novels will allow him to play Lee perfectly later this year.

His Dark Materials is expected to premiere on HBO this fall.
