Here's Why Mad Max: Fury Road Almost Didn't Feature the Doof Warrior

What was the craziest thing about Mad Max: Fury Road for you? Most people will be quick to point out that amidst all the crazy (good-crazy) scenes in the film, one man truly stood out: The Doof Warrior in his red onesie and flame-throwing guitar. However, the iconic guitarist was almost cut out of the movie for a perfectly understandable reason.

The interesting new detail was revealed by New York Times reporter Kyle Buchanan, who tweeted about how Warner Bros. wanted to cut the Doof Warrior from the 2015 film.

"‘The Doof Warrior tested really badly at first,' Miller told me. ‘We had temp music, and whenever the Doof Warrior played in the test screening, it was the same riff, so it got annoying,'" Buchanan wrote.

In a separate tweet, he revealed that some people from Warner Bros. told Miller to "drop the Doof Warrior" but the director insisted that "it's way too early to even think of that." Luckily, things changed when the Junkie XL score was added. "He became one of the most popular characters in the film," Miller reportedly said.

First of all, it's understandable why the people at Warner Bros. thought the Doof Warrior was a bad idea especially if he kept playing the same riff over and over again. However, we're glad that Miller stuck with the character since he was an instant scene-stealer.

The Doof Warrior was played by Australian musician iOTA. It is still unclear if the character will return in the planned Fury Road prequel film that will focus on a young Furiosa.
