Deadpool 2 had a pretty decent run when its PG-13 iteration Once Upon A Deadpool hits cinemas over the holiday season, and now it looks like the less violent and less brassy version of the Deadpool sequel finally has a Blu-Ray release date.
Despite the success of the Deadpool franchise, the film series' R-Rating has kept families from enjoying the Merc with a Mouth's (Ryan Reynolds) antics and crude humor. To open up the doors to younger audiences, Fox decided to edit Deadpool 2 and add in new footage to create a PG-13 version of the film called Once Upon A Deadpool. The family-friendly (sorta) comic book movie had a blast in cinemas, and now, taking to Instagram, Reynolds has confirmed when exactly the film will make it to Blu-Ray.
"The movie your kids want to watch without your permission. Now with your permission. Get #OnceUponADeadpool in glorious PG-13 on Blu-Ray and Digital January 15," the actor wrote on his post that shared BTS pictures of him together with The Princess Bride's Fred Savage.
While Once Upon A Deadpool proved that the Merc with a Mouth could still play around with a PG-13 rating, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick admit that the film just works so much better at its R-Rating. Toning down the violence and the swearing just made Once Upon A Deadpool feel blander than the original Deadpool 2.
Hopefully, as Fox enters its merger with Disney, the Mickey Mouse House lets Deadpool keep its R-Rated tradition.
Once Upon A Deadpool releases on Blu-Ray and Digital on January 15, 2019.
