The Nintendo Switch Online service is launching today and many fans are conflicted over it. While US$19.99 for a year's worth of online play doesn't sound like a bad plan, the service itself doesn't really give players much value, outside of all the NES games coming out as part of the service. Being able to play these games at any time is a nice incentive but fans want more, especially since the Wii U's Virtual Console service was much better.
Even with all the disadvantages compared to the Wii U's Virtual Console, there are a number of NES games that fans are excited to play on their Nintendo Switch. Game Informer has revealed the games that will be available when the service launches later today.
Without further ado, here are the games that will be available today. Most of these are of high quality, especially Super Mario Bros. 3, which many consider to be one of the finer Mario games in existence:
On October, we're getting three more NES games. The date itself is not yet known but it seems like Nintendo is making sure that they deliver games on a monthly basis:
November gets a bit better, especially with the release of Metroid on NES. Granted, it doesn't hold a candle to the SNES sequel Super Metroid but it still has a few redeemable qualities:
December has a nice surprise for fans as well; Ninja Gaiden. While most fans associate the name with Koei Tecmo's recent reboot series, the classic Ninja Gaiden games are still worth playing. Some fans might feel that the recent release of The Messenger might have made these games irrelevant but it's still good seeing what inspired it:
Admittedly, these games don't fix all of the problems that plague Nintendo Switch Online but if the company learns from their mistakes and continues to add more benefits, it could be a quality service someday. Just not today, which is when the service launches.
