Here Are New Details About The Upcoming Star Wars: Rogue One Spinoff Series

Star Wars fans might have been disappointed by the missing Star Wars trailers and announcements during the Christmas holiday season but it looks like Lucasfilm has decided to get everyone ready for new years with new details about its upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story TV spinoff series.

Production Weekly just recently put up a post confirming the Cassian Andor (Diego Luna)-Led series' start of production, saying that principal photography would begin sometime in October this year, allowing a potential 2020 release date for the show.

"The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series has not yet been announced," the production site describes the upcoming Rogue One spinoff.

There was a whole lot of shock when Lucasfilm announced the series earlier this year. Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the Mickey Mouse House would be slowing down the production of Star Wars spinoffs after the poor performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, so a television series spinoff announcement was highly unexpected. Besides, what fans were really waiting for was a new movie about Obi-Wan, everyone's favorite high ground Jedi.

Still, the Rogue One spinoff comes as a pleasant surprise for everyone. Cassian was a fan-favorite character in Rogue One, and fans are excited to learn how the Rebel spy came into the Rebellion and later on met K-2SO, everyone's favorite bitingly witty droid.

The Rogue One spinoff series has yet to receive a release date but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
