HBO’s Watchmen: The Mirror-Faced Character is Tim Blake Nelson’s Looking Glass

San Diego Comic-Con 2019 gave us a brand new trailer for HBO's Watchmen, and we get introduced to a whole new batch of characters. One particular new face is a man with a mirror-like mask, and as it turns out, this is Tim Blake Nelson's Looking Glass.

This was confirmed by /Film and from the get-go, it seems like Looking Glass is this show's modern version of Rorschach; but instead of inkblots, the criminals he takes down get to see their own faces reflected on his. The parallels are also kind of similar when you see Looking Glass eating from a can with half his mask on, just like Rorschach in the original Watchmen.

Back in 2018 before the character reveal, Nelson described his Looking Glass character to Empire:

"I don't really completely understand him, and that's intentional. Damon Lindelof metes out facts about your character as you go along […] so I'm learning as I go along who this guy is, and trying to... It's almost like fresco painting. The clay is always wet."

When it comes to Looking Glass on the surface level, Nelson describes him as "A good looking cop, the native Oklahoman isn't simple as his rural accent makes him appear to be. A top interrogator and behavioral scientist, he may also be a bit of a sociopath."

I really can't wait to see this return to the world of Watchmen, and it really seems like showrunner David Lindelof is capturing the spirit of the original comic and putting it against the backdrop of modern society. Hopefully, this manages to be a new take on the comic book genre as compared to the kid-friendly films we've been getting from the MCU.

Catch Watchmen when it premieres on HBO this October.
