Hasbro's Micronauts Will be Getting a Live-Action Movie from How to Train Your Dragon Director

It looks like Hasbro's Micronauts are finally about to get their big break on the silver screen as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that a live-action film based on the toyline is underway. If that wasn't exciting enough, the movie will be directed and written by Dean DeBlois, who worked on the excellent How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, so it looks like we're in good hands.

This will be DeBlois' live-action directorial debut, which should be exciting. The website also states that we'll be seeing the Micronauts movie on June 4, 2021, releasing on the same month as DC's The Batman. Granted, it's 21 days before the big superhero movie but it's still an odd decision since Batman is one of the most popular comic book heroes out there.

While some might be nervous about DeBlois' live-action debut, other directors who previously worked on animation have had stellar debuts. Travis Knight, who worked on Kubo and the Two Strings, directed Bumblebee, which is the best Transformers movie and should be the start of a more faithful reboot. Brad Bird, known for The Incredibles, directed the excellent Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and the mediocre Tomorrowland.

Micronauts were a toyline in the ‘70s but gained steam when Marvel released a number of comics based on them. They were a hit and many consider them to be underrated gems, so it's a shame that those comics can't be reprinted these days. IDW currently has the license for the current Micronauts comics.

Micronauts is slated to come out on June 4, 2021.
