Hasbro to Produce Ghostbusters Toys in 2020

Hasbro is behind some of the biggest toy lines from Marvel Legends to Star Wars the Black Series, and it looks like they've just nabbed another property from Sony Pictures.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro is now officially going to be manufacturing toys for Sony's Ghostbusters 2020. Hasbro's senior vice president had this to say about the deal: "Ghostbusters is an iconic and beloved franchise and we are excited and honored to return to the brand as the global master toy licensee and bring new product to the next generation of fans. Drawing on Hasbro's proprietary insights and culture of innovation, we are working closely with Sony Pictures Consumer Products to create a dynamic new toy line that we can't wait to share with fans around the world."

We don't have any idea on what kind of products Hasbro has in mind for the franchise, but I imagine they're going to be drawing from both the new film as well as the original films from the 80s. No doubt we're also going to be getting some crossover material, as they've already made the Transformers/Ghostbusters mash-up figure of Ectotron.

Though a deal between Hasbro and Sony may seem to come out of nowhere, it kind of makes sense that Hasbro would be making figures for Ghostbusters. After all, they do make figures for the latest Spider-Man films, which are owned by Sony. I guess it's going to be kind of weird moving forward, what with Sony and Disney having their falling out. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

We don't know when the first wave of Ghostbusters toys will come out, but Ghostbusters 2020 is set for a release on July 10, 2020.
