Harry Potter Fans Slam 'Transphobic' J.K. Rowling for Getting Royalties from HBO Max Series

Potterheads were stunned earlier this week when several reports surfaced that HBO Max is developing a new Harry Potter series that could potentially see the return of the iconic trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. This new development comes on the heels of Rupert's recent statement that he'd be down to work on a reunion project with his Harry Potter co-stars.

As of writing, both Warner Bros. Pictures and the HBO streaming service have yet to confirm reports but surprisingly enough, not everyone is thrilled about the idea of seeing more "wizarding" projects and expanding the fantasy franchise.

Now, before you raise your eyebrows, we're gonna say right off the bat that the issue has nothing to do with Radcliffe or any of the film's cast members. Instead, fans are furious over the possibility of author J.K. Rowling getting herself more royalty checks from the rumored series.

Rowling has been making headlines since 2019 for her apparent stand against transgender people which earned her countless criticism from fans and LGBTQ groups. Furious Harry Potter fans took to Twitter to air their disgust over the show and Rowling's potential royalties.

It's quite obvious that fans have yet to forgive Rowling for airing her controversial opinions but at this point, I don't think there's anything they can do about it. Of course, it's already a no-brainer that the author will get royalties from the stories and characters she created so it's either we accept that fact or just choose to ignore the rumored show and not be bothered by it.

HBO Max's Harry Potter series is reportedly in active development.
