Harry Potter: Daniel Radcliffe Kills Any Hope of Starring in Cursed Child Movie

It's been eleven years now since the Harry Potter film series ended, but the franchise still goes on today thanks to the Fantastic Beasts films and the recent reunion special that aired on HBO Max. The play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has also been receiving acclaim in both its Broadway and West End run. Some fans have been wondering if they'll ever make a film adaption of the play. However, it looks like we won't see it anytime soon thanks to Harry Potter himself's recent statement.

Speaking to The New York Times, Daniel Radcliffe was asked if he's ever interested in potentially starring in a film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Unfortunately, it seems that he's not open to reprising his iconic role anytime soon although that doesn't mean that the doors have closed to any possibility.

"This isn’t the answer that anybody’s going to want, but I think I was so able to go back and enjoy it because it’s not a part of my day-to-day life anymore," Radcliffe said. "I’m getting to a point where I feel like I made it out of Potter OK and I’m really happy with where I am now, and to go back would be such a massive change to my life. I'm never going to say never, but the Star Wars guys had like 30, 40 years before they went back. For me, it’s only been 10. It’s not something I’m really interested in doing right now."

While it might be disappointing to hear that Radcliffe is not interested in potentially starring in a Cursed Child movie anytime soon, he did assure us that he is still open to doing it someday in the future. It is also understandable why he's not open to doing it at the moment since the Harry Potter films are still a bit fresh and the best way to do a story like Cursed Child would be in 10 or more years when the actors have aged up.

Given the popularity of nostalgia nowadays, it wouldn't be surprising if Warner Bros. is eyeing to make another Harry Potter film once they're done with the Fantastic Beasts franchise. The Cursed Child might be the best direction that they can go to since the main characters are older and, given the popularity of the play, it would garner an instant interest from the general audience. Let's just wait and see if they'll ever do it down the line and if Radcliffe would eventually be open to doing it.
