Star Wars fans might treat the original trilogy like the holy grail, but Harrison Ford has had very different sentiments towards the films, and so did the crew handling the production of the very first Star Wars movie, A New Hope.
Speaking in an interview with BuzzFeed Celeb, Ford was made to stroke puppies on-screen to help promote his new movie, the live-action adaptation of Jack London's literary classic, The Call of the Wild. During his session with the entertainment news outlet, Ford decided to share one of his favorite memories working on A New Hope – something which fans don't always expect to come from a Star Wars legend.
"The complete and utter disdain that our very experienced British crew felt for what we were doing," the actor said with a smile when asked about his favorite part filming A New Hope.
According to Ford, the crew working on Episode VII didn't really understand the film. To the "experienced British crew" everything was ridiculous. There was a "guy running around in a dog suit and a princess and some guys in tight pants." The production team just didn't really understand what George Lucas wanted from the film, and so they laughed at the cast constantly thinking that it was all really ridiculous.
It must have looked ridiculous at the time. There wasn't anything like Star Wars at the time. A New Hope broke new ground for mainstream Hollywood cinema.
Now, the Star Wars franchise is one of the biggest and most popular science fiction franchises in film history. Sure, it might have had a few problematic entries the past few years, but the franchise' future still looks promising with the second season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and with a new slate of films set outside the Skywalker saga.
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is making its way to Digital HD on March 17, 2020. The film is set to release on DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K Ultra HD on March 31, 2020.
