Harrison Ford On Why He Wanted Han Solo's Death In Star Wars: The Force Awakens

When Han Solo died in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the entire Star Wars fandom was crushed. Apparently though, Harrison Ford is in total agreement of the character’s fate. In fact, he even embraces Solo’s unfortunate end.

When Good Morning America provided a preview of the Secrets of The Force Awakens documentary featureyesterday, actors and filmmakers also spoke out for the first time about the film’s much talked about twists. This includes the Ford’s thoughts on the way Solo died.

The 73-year-old actor said:

I wanted Han Solo to be able to lend some significant emotional weight to the story.

Well, he certainly achieved that. The death of Han Solo had become a pivotal moment in Star Wars: The Force Awakens showing the existing struggle that Kylo Ren had with the Light and the Dark side of the Force.

Check out what else Ford and the other actors had to say in the preview below:

It remains to be seen how Solo’s demise will affect the rest of the saga, but it will surely have a big influence on the future plans of Leia, Rey, Chewie, and maybe even Ben Solo. Maybe Han Solo isn’t really dead. Just throwing it out there.

I can’t wait to see the new features on The Force Awakens’ home release. I’m also super excited to see Episode VIII.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released digitally on April 1. It will be followed shortly after by the release of Blu-Ray/DVD copies on April 5. Meanwhile, Star Wars: Episode VIII will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.

Do you think Han Solo’s demise is really necessary?
