There's a whole lot of uncertainty about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after Disney's decision to part ways with director James Gunn. Back in June, the Mickey Mouse House decided to fire the director Marvel had assigned to building the Marvel Cosmic Universe because of some right extremist decided to bring out some of Gunn's decade-old tweets that were considered both insensitive and inappropriate.
Now, no one's quite sure what's going to happen to the franchise, not Dave Bautista and especially not John C. Reilly, the actor and comedian who plays Nova Corpsman Rhomann Day in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Sitting down with ComicBook.com during Disney's press junket for its upcoming animated movie Ralph Breaks the Internet, Reilly was asked whether he knew what his future would be in the MCU. Unfortunately, the actor has been left in the dark, saying that Marvel hasn't told him any of their plans.
"I don't know," the actor told the publication. "I'm surprised they decided not to make a third Guardians, but, yeah. I'm not sure! Marvel certainly doesn't tell me what's going on in the Marvel Universe. I was just lucky enough to get that job in the first place. It kind of ticked a box for me, you know? 'Get to be a guy who's in outer space,' that's a pretty cool thing to be able to do."
Right now, without Gunn to helm the film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is being put on hold while Disney continues searching for another director to replace the filmmaker.
Meanwhile, Avengers 4, the culminating film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is scheduled for release on May 3, 2019.
