Guardians of the Galaxy Will Feature Thanos for Bendis’s Big Finale

Brian Michael Bendis has been hailed as the writer who has been with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise the longest. And to aptly end his run with the comic book series, he will be bringing back the Mad Titan into the scene.

In an interview with IGN, Bendis confirmed that this is his way of making a lasting mark on the franchise as he bids his goodbyes.

"Thanos will be returning for my final issue of Guardians, which is at least double-sized. It's a very big finale and it wraps up a great deal of things that characters in the book have been questing for my entire run. That includes a pretty major showdown between the Guardians and Thanos right here on Earth."

For Bendis, this was a wish that he was unable to fulfill when he exited the Avengers comics as well. As the longest-running writer for that comics, Bendis said that he had ended it quietly, so this is his chance to do it with a bang.

"I was reminded by someone at Marvel, I'm the longest running Guardians of the Galaxy writer ever and I'm going to make the effort to go out really big with the help of the writer who's coming after me."

Gerry Dugan will be the next writer to fill in the shoes of Bendis in Guardians of the Galaxy. He's set to continue the legacy of the Guardians in the All-New Guardians of the Galaxy together with artist Aaron Kuder and colorist Ive Svorcina.

It will be interesting to see how Bendis will break out Thanos from Triskelion prison, where he's supposed to be locked up in following the events of Civil War II.

Fans can expect Guardians of the Galaxy #19 in April, and it will be a double-size issue at $4.99
