Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Will Be Crucial To MCU Phase 4, Says James Gunn

Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel are set to be the finale to the third phase of the MCU, as well as the culmination to the Infinity Stones and Thanos. Since Kevin Feige called these films the conclusion to everything built up so far, fans were worried that this would mean the end for the MCU. James Gunn has taken to Twitter to point out that isn't the case.

Gunn stated that Phase 4 would be the beginning of another huge story for the MCU and that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be one of the films that will kickstart it. The director definitely got fans interested in the future of the MCU, even though he essentially plugged his next film.

In fairness to Gunn, the first Guardians of the Galaxy was quite integral to the larger arc of the MCU. The Guardians are currently the only characters hellbent on Thanos and his plans so seeing what happens to them after all of this is over should be interesting. Prior to this, Gunn did say that the third film would be the final installment featuring the current incarnation of the Guardians.

What does the future hold for the MCU? Fans will have to wait. There are still six movies left in Phase 3 so we still have a lot of movies to enjoy. Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
