Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to Start Production in 2021

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was supposed to start production sometime next year, but after James Gunn got fired, the film went on an indefinite hiatus. Now it looks like the movie is back on track, but we'll have to wait a lot longer before start shooting.

According to Production Weekly (via PursueNews), Guardians 3 is set for a production date on February 2021. The movie was originally set for a 2020 release, but after the fiasco earlier this year, it looks like we'll have to wait until 2022 till we finally get an ending to the Guardians arc—at least this iteration anyway.

With the working title branded Hot Christmas, some people think that Marvel Studios has finally found someone to replace Gunn as director. A lot of people think that Taika Waititi is the best choice to replace Gunn, but I'm hoping that they pick someone more attuned with special effects and sci-fi. I mean, like Thor: Ragnarok as much as you want, but it's far from Waititi's best work like Boy or Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Despite a fan petition and an open letter from the main cast, it's disappointing to say that Disney has decided not to re-hire Gunn. A lot of people were also looking at Marvel CEO Kevin Feige to be Gunn's champion in the matter, but it looks like he was onboard for the firing as well.

I guess we'll have to wait and find out if they'll reveal what really happened behind the scenes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has no set release date, but we could hit theaters in 2022.
